Natasha Roslan had perfect start to her maiden appearance to emerge leader after the women’s first six games this afternoon at QubicaAMF 55th Bowling World Cup at Bowling Centre, Jakabaring Sports City, Palembang.

The 23-year-old despite making her debut showed no signs of jitteriness and was cool like a cucumber despite being the early top placed bowlers.

After positioning herself in third sport after the second game with lines of 216 and 211, she moved to top spot 222 and went on to maintain her lead with an impressive 228 game but fell shot to fire 207 in the fifth game but still maintained the lead with Korea’s Jeon Eunhee breathing down her neck on second spot and 11 pins behind her.

But Natasha’s 222 in her final game and Jeon’s two open frames for a game of 159 clinched it for the former to amass a total of 1306, as Jeon dropped to fourth spot with her total of 1288.

The 2016 World Youth Masters champion and member of 2017 World championship winning team who hails from Selangor, certainly made heads turn yesterday as other top bowlers like Aumi Guerra from Dominican Republic who won the title twice – in 2010 and 2011, Philippines’ Krizziah Lyn Tabora winner in 2017 and Kulick Kulick, a member of Team USA for the 15th time, all fell behind her.

Kulick finished second yesterday with a total of 1293, while Brazil’s Stephanie Martina was the day’s third placed with a total of 1235.

Guerra finished 7th with a total of 1202 while Tabora was tenth with 1194 ““I went out today without any pressure and just do my best, and am glad that it turned out to be a great start to the tournament in my debut appearance. But there is still a long way to go,” said Natasha who used just used one ball throughout the six game.

“It was good that I did not have to make too many adjustments to my game and all was going fine. That made me able to focus more on the game and scoring.

“Coach Ben Heng too was a great help guiding me all the way and stay on track.

“I am glad everything fell in place and will use today’s performance to further motivate myself for the coming days. What is important now is that I have to remain consistent and remain focussed,” Nastasha who hardly shows any emotion when bowling.

It maybe early days, but hopes are expected to rise to see if Natasha can clinch the title which bowling queen Shalin Zulkilfi failed in her seven appearances and together with Sin Li Jane, and Siti Safiyah Amirah Abdul Rahman had all the dubious honour of finishing second.

Li Jane is a two-time runner-up, in Wroclaw in 2014 and last year in Las Vegas; Shalin came in second in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in 1996 while Siti Safiyah also finished runner-up in Hermosillo, Mexico, in 2017.
