SMK Chengal of Kelantan clinched their first ever 100PLUS Super Cup crown when they beat Selangor’s SMK Tinggi Kajang of Selangor 2-0 in the final that was played on Tuesday.

The victory for the team from the east coast was their second in the fifteen year history of the 100PLUS Super Cup following SMK Putera’s capture of the title in 2009.

In the final that was delayed by about 15 minutes due to heavy weather, SMK Chengal was in firm control as they pushed the Selangor side back into their own half for much of the encounter.

Persistent Kelantan pressure saw Selangor conceding a freekick right at the edge of the box which Nizam Fikir Mohd Nasir fired into the top left hand corner for the lead after 20 minutes.

“The emphasis was on the defence as Selangor has several individual players who can move the ball around really well,” said Muhammad Ridzuan Daud, the head coach of SMK Chengal.

“But I thought that the boys were more eager in the final and they were disciplined and did not lose focus. That made the difference.”

SMK Chengal’s second goal came via Muhammad Amirul Nizam Azmi at the hour mark when he drew out Selangor keeper Aieman Jalil off a quick counter before slotting into an empty goal.

“It was a good final. My emphasis was on playing well. It is not so much the results which mattered,” said Shaari Abdul Hamid, the head coach of SMK Tinggi Kajang.

“I want the players to develop as good professionals in the future and it all begins here. It was good that Kelantan won. They took their chances well.”

Other than the crown, SMK Chengal also won all three individual awards through Hasbullah Abd Rahim for Best Goalkeeper, Muhammad Amirul Nizam Mohd Azmi for Top Scorer (8 goals) and Best Player for Muhamad Aiman Naief Boskori.
