The Philippines and Australia picked up the full points on the first day of the Second Round qualifiers of women’s football for the Olympic Games 2024.

Playing in Group A at the Perth Rectangular Stadium, the Philippines fought back to beat Chinese Taipei 4-1 as host Australia edged Iran 2-0.

Hsu Yi-yun gave Chinese Taipei the lead in the 47th minute as the Philippines then came back with a Sarina Bolden penalty in the 54th minute before Katrina Guillou put them ahead six minutes later.

Two further goals from Bolden (83rd minute) and Chandler McDaniel (90th) completed the rout.

In the meantime in the other match in Group A, Australia overcame Iran 2-0 – off goals from Ellie Carpenter in the 19th minute and Sam Kerr in the 78th minute.

In Group B, Thailand were given some harsh lessons when they were overwhelmed 10-1 by South Korea.

Thailand’s only goal of the game was scored by Rinyaphat Moondong right at the end.

In Group C, Vietnam started their campaign on the wrong footing with a 1-0 loss to host Uzbekistan.

The only goal of the game came through Diyorakhon Khabibullaeva in the 30th minute.
