Low Hang Yee and Ng Eng Cheong picked up their first title this year when they were crowned the Men’s Doubles champions at the PETRONAS National Championships 2025 that concluded earlier today in Putrajaya.

The top seeds showed their quality when Hang Yee-Eng Cheong continued their fine run in winning in straight sets in the earlier rounds, with another stellar performance in the final against Azman Mohd Nur Aidil Adha-Zulman Helmie Zulhaidee.

World No. 59 Hang Yee-Eng Cheong, winners at last year’s Malaysia Super 100, romped to the 24-22, 21-17 win over Azman-Zulman.

In the meantime, Lee Xin Jie-Low Yeen Yuan did not have it easy enroute to their win of the Women’s Doubles crown when they had to face Low Zi Yu-Nur Aina Maisarah Muhamad Hatta in the final.

Zi Yu and Nur Aina, who were aiming to be the youngest ever national champions, had taken the first set 21-17 against the second-seeded duo Xin Jie-Yeen Yuan.

However, Xin Jie-Yeen Yuan rallied to take the second set 21-18 and then the decisive 21-12 in the third set for their first title together.

It was the same script in the final of the Mixed Doubles, with Wee Yee Tern-Clarissa San Yee Wen needing more than an hour to seize the title.

Second-seeded Yee Tern-Clarissa took the first set 24-22 before Tan Zhi Yang-Nicole Tan Pei En stormed to take the second set 21-19.

But Yee Tern-Clarissa was a tad more determined when they romped to the 21-17 victory in the third set for the Mixed Doubles crown.

It was another long, drawn game in the final of the Women’s Singles, with Shaneesa Shahidi needing 75 minutes to quell Teoh Sue Mei before she was able to lift her first national crown.

The 18-year-old Shaneesa took the first set 21-15, before Sue Mei recovered to draw the series 21-15.

However, the Melaka-born Shaneesa had just more in the tank to win 21-12 in the third set for her first national crown.

On the other hand, Ong Zhen Yi had a more straightforward march to the Men’s Singles crown when he overcame the challenge of Hooi Shao Herng in straight sets.

The 22-year-old Zhen Yi, who picked up his first international title through the Men’s Doubles at the Finnish Junior in 2021, showed plenty of determination to take the 21-14, 21-16 triumph in 45 minutes.
