Cheam June Wei, the only Malaysian seeded in the boy’s singles, also advanced to the third round after a 21-15, 21-19 win over Japan’s Kazuki Kirita. June Wei had a first round bye.

“I was a bit nervous as Kazuki was quite strong in his game. But I did play well but slowed down when I was leading 20-14 in the second set as I was tired,” said June Wei after his win.

The Malaysian will now play Ronan Gueguin (France) in the third round.

However, it was game over for Lee Zii Jia and Tan Jia Wei who failed to get past Muhammad Bayu Pangishthu (Indonesia) and Lu Chia Hung (Taiwan) respectively.
