The title of being the best teams in Futsal at KL2017 will only be decided in two days – testifying to the fact that the quality of the indoor game has been on the increase over the last few years.

Unlike previous editions of the SEA Games where Thailand held sway in both divisions of the men and women’s Futsal, this time round several teams have given the Thais and outright challenge to their dominance.

And with the Thais having lost their grip on women’s football to Vietnam last night, there’s every chance that a new champion might just be crowned in 48 hours.

In Women’s Futsal, the fight will be down to between Thailand and Indonesia – this after both teams battled to a 2-2 draw in their clash this evening at the Panasonic Sports Complex.

After three matches in the round robin competition, Thailand are holding the top spot with seven points – the same as Indonesia – although the former holds a slight advantage in terms of goal difference.

Three-time winners Thailand need only to draw Malaysia for the title Indonesia will have to beat Vietnam by at least two goals for the win.

In the meantime, the script is almost the same in the men’s division with Thailand again in the spotlight for the title against hosts Malaysia.

After three matches, the Malaysians hold the advantage with seven points while the Thais are on six points.

“It will be very difficult against Malaysia as they are super motivated for the final game in the group,” said Thailand head coach Pulpis. “The Malaysians have been playing well but we come here for the gold and it is for that reason we have to put our minds to it.”
