THE Historical City of Melaka which is the second stop in the Kuala Lumpur 2017 Torch Run series organised in conjunction with the 29th SEA Games and the 9th ASEAN Para Games (also known as Kuala Lumpur 2017 – KL2017), witnessed an interesting and unique gimmick when the Torch wastaken on a cruise boat ride down Melaka River today, 20 May 2017.

Earlier, the KL2017 Torch Run for Melaka Tengah District was flagged off at Dataran Sungai Melaka by the Member of the Senate, YB Senator Datuk Haji Abidullah Salleh.

The boat carrying the Torch took off from Kampung Morten Jetty and was accompanied by the KL2017 mascot, RIMAU. The river cruise activity was also joined by the Melaka State Financial Officer, Datuk Roslan Ibrahim.

The KL2017 Torch cruised along the Melaka River to theRestoranMelayu Melaka Jettybefore it was brought to the Fit Malaysia venue to join the rest of the participants. At the same event, Datuk Roslan Bin Ibrahimhanded over the KL2017 Torch to Tuan Daud bin Hasan, the District Officer of Alor Gajah before the run continued to its last destination for the state of Melaka.

The KL2017 Torch Run in Melaka started on 18 May 2017, when the Torch arrived from Tangkak, Johor. The run in Melaka will end on 21 May 2017. The run in Melaka traverses three main districts which are Jasin, Melaka Tengah and Alor Gajah. The KL2017 Torch Run will continue its journey to Negeri Sembilan on 22 May 2017.

The KL2017 Torch Run is organised by MASOC and the Ministry of Youth and Sports with the cooperation of the State Department of Youth and Sports as a prelude to KL2017. It is one of the initiatives to boost the spirit of Rising Together amongthe people across the nation leading up to the Games.

The KL2017 Torch was specially designed by Royal Selangor.

The KL2017 Torch Run starts on 13 May 2017 and is scheduled to end on 12 August 2017. KL2017 will take place from19th to 30th August 2017 for the 29th SEA Games and 17th to 23rd September 2017 for the 9th ASEAN Para Games.
