THE second day of the Liga Layar Malaysia (LLM) at the National Sailing Training Centre provided more action on the waters of Langkawi with sailors fighting to qualify to the knockout stages.
The day kicked off with the top two skippers facing off each other but Mohd Masyuri Rahmat of the Royal Malaysian Navy Match Racing Team maintained his lead over Jeremy Koo of Sime Darby Foundation-KRT to finish the first round robin stage with 5 points while Koo has 4.5 points.
The quarterfinal stage of the competition saw Masyuri choosing to race against Mohd Faizal Norizan (Royal Langkawi Yacht Club/MYA), Koo picking Muhammad Shaiful Bakhtiar Shariff (SPA Sailing Team) as his opponent and Nik Ashraf Qaedi Nik Azizan (Permai Hotel Match Racing Team) who was third in the standings at the start of the day racing against Khairulnizam Mohd Afendy (UiTM/MYA Match Racing Team) to determine the semifinal line up.
Khairulnizam emerged as the third skipper to qualify into the semifinal followed by Nik Ashraf. Muhammad Shaiful and Mohd Faizal ended the race in fifth and sixth respectively.
The action will continue tomorrow with the semifinal races followed by the finals to determine the winners of this leg of the circuit.
