Pasini, French Moto2 2019

#The Italian rider will start from the second row of the grid at Le Mans.

Mattia Pasini’s superb start to his stand-in spell at PETRONAS Sprinta Racing continued with his setting the fourth fastest time in qualifying for the French GP.

The Italian, who went directly into Q2, suffered a light crash at the end of qualifying but escaped unharmed.

The conditions were wet from the morning onwards, and that meant that there would be no improvements in Free Practice times. That put Pasini into Q2, whilst in FP3 he attempted to try out the bike in the wet. He led the timesheets at the start of the session, eventually placing 14th with a best time of 1min 46.622sec.

The afternoon Q2 session was also held amidst rain. Pasini was fast and clocked a time of 1min 49.906sec, putting him fourth on the grid for his opening race as a PETRONAS Sprinta Racing rider.

His crash at Turn 8, with just over 3 minutes remaining, resulting in him being unable to continue his assault on pole, but a spot on the second row is nevertheless excellent for the Italian rider.

Tomorrow’s 25-lap Moto2 race will take place at 12:20pm local time.

#54 Mattia Pasini

“The feeling was good, although I would say that going straight into Q2 today hurt us a little, because I think the riders coming in from Q1 had a bit more of an advantage. I think we did a good job, improving lap by lap. I feel bad about making a small mistake on the brakes and crashing. Even so, fourth on the grid is very good and I’m happy about that. We will see what the conditions are like for the race.”
