Top seeds Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying were taken the full distance before winning their first-round mixed doubles match against homesters Wang Chi-lin-Cheng Chi-ya 17-21, 21-11, 21-11 in the USD500,000 Yonex Chinese Taipei Open in Taipei on Tuesday.

The World No 5 Malaysian professionals next face Vietnam’s Do Tuan Duc-Pham Nhu Thao after the Vietnamese ousted another home pair Yang Ming Tse-Wu Ti Jung 21-19, 21-10.

Also through to the second round were Hoo Pang Ron-Cheah Yee See. They beat another home pair Lu Ching Yao-Lee Chia Hsin 21-13, 21-10 on a day when compatriots Chen Tang Jie-Peck Yen Wei became first-round casualties – losing 19-21, 17-21 to Indonesia’s Mychelle Crhystine Bandaso.

Meanwhile, up and coming Cheam June Wei made the main draw in the men’s singles after coming through two qualifying round matches. In the first round, he beat Chen Chi Ting (Taipei) 21-18, 21-13. In the second round knocked out another Chinese Taipei player Lin Chun Yi 21-17, 13-21, 21-17.

In the first round, June Wei will face Indonesia’s Ihsan Maulana Mustofa. The other Malaysians in the first round are No 4 seed Lee Zii Jia who will face Chinese Taipei qualifier, Hsueh Hsuan Yi.
