Moto2 European Championship
Round 1 – Portimao, Portugal
PETRONAS AHM Malaysia
PETRONAS AHM Malaysia’s Ramdan Rosli qualified 20th in the Moto2 European Championship and will start Sunday’s FIM CEV Repsol Championship from sixth row at the Circuito de Algarve, Portimao, Portugal on Saturday.
The PETRONAS Talent Development rider who made a switch to Moto2 from Moto3 for 2015 was 20th quickest out of 33 contestants on the combined timesheet with 1’49.259s, clocked during the dry second qualifying session.
He improved by 0.594 seconds from the first qualifying held under cold and wet conditions that saw him crash out and retire after five laps.
Pole position went to Spaniard, Xavi Vierge 1’45.532s with Luca Marini and Edgar Pons completing the front row in 1’46.164s and 1’46.231s.
“I made a mistake by pushing too hard early in the QP1 and went in too hot into. I know I could do better and improve my timing further if only I could continue but the engineers could not fix the bike on time,” said Ramdan.
He added, “In QP2 things did not go too well either. I could not find my rhythm and the bike  slide a bit too much at several turns. We used the same setup and tyre compound throughout the session as it was best during the test two weeks ago but we could not hit our personal best 1’48.00s. I have given feedback to the team and we will go through the data together and make the necessary changes.”
PETRONAS AHM Malaysia manager, Kenny Chua said, “Tough qualifying session for Ramdan. I would have thought he could do better or at least produce his best time during the test. That will make him sit around 9th or 10th in the qualifying. That did not happen and we need to work harder tomorrow to achieve our set stretch target.”
