Kuala Selangor based River Blue continued their fairy tale run in the TNB-QNET-Selangor Hockey League 2016 by beating Senil Solution 1-0 in a nail-biting semifinal match that was played on Thursday at the MBPJ Stadium

The win also gave River Blue the chance to avenge the loss they suffered against IIUM Mustangs, in the league match where they lost 2-0.

The final will be played on 15 Oct at the MBPJ Stadium and where it is excited to be a fast-paced game.

River Blue did not have it easy against their semifinal opponent with Senil Solutions considered as the favorites.

With River Blue pressing into the attack in the third quarter, a clumsy tackle in the 38th minute saw tempers flaring and the ensuing free hit awarded to River Blue, resulted in a hard cross driven into the Senil Solution goal as it took a deflection off Helmi Sazrim Tamami.

Senil Solutions came roaring back as they pinned River Blue into their own half but the resolute defending by River Blue kept them at bay.

In the 43rd minute, Senil Solutions squandered a golden opportunity to equalize via a penalty corner set piece.

The ball landed to Senil’s Tarenjeet Singh who only needed to lift the ball over the keeper but flicked it over the top post instead.

River Blue hero was keeper Mohd Aizat Ali who made vital saves to keep his team in the game. There was more drama to come in the last quarter as the pace of the game increases, in the dying seconds Senil were awarded a penalty corner.

But the flick was saved by River Blue’s keeper Mohd Aizat Ali and the ball was scrambled away outside the circle as the horn went off.

River Blue Kuala Selangor players celebrate on the field as they had qualified to their first ever Selangor Hockey League Hockey Final.

The final will be played on Saturday Oct 15th in MBPJ Hockey Stadium.
