The Goat year this Chinese New Year was celebrated with a 1 Malaysia concept for tennis in Sandakan.

Johnson Koh who is Patron of the Sandakan District Tennis Association held an open house at the tennis club premises on the first day of the CNY celebrations.

As in previous years and for the last 30 over years Johnson has not failed to hold the open house on the first day of the Chinese New Year.

On the said day friends of his wife Jeannie and his daughters’ friends will converge to the house, while all the tennis friends will converge to the tennis clubhouse in the night.

The evening starts with tennis matches for those who don’t even rest on CNY 1st day, followed by Lion dance  performance at the tennis courts followed  dinner. The highlight is the giving out of ‘ANG POWS’ to those who are still single and kids together with mandarin oranges and other CNY  goodies.

According to Johnson this is one of his yearly event to further foster tennis friendship  and  bring all races  together to celebrate the occasion.

With the noisy lion performance, good food, oranges and goodies to go with the catching up of old memories  among tennis  buffs, it is no better way of achieving the purpose of 1Malaysia.

“The event has become an important yearly event which fosters 1Malaysia concept that cuts through racial barriers. In short, we in tennis celebrate in grand style as true Malaysians,” said Johnson, a businessman.
