Datuk Lee Chong Wei, two-time Olympic silver medallist, had an excellent warm up as he defeated Suriname’s Soren Opti in his opening Group A match of the Rio Olympics. Chong Wei, the World No. 1, easily won 21-2, 21-3.

Chasing his first Olympic gold, Chong Wei will face Singapore’s Derek Wong in his second group match on Aug 14. With today’s victory, Chong Wei tops the group and must secure a good result in the nest tie to finish as the group winner and advance.

Meanwhile, two-time Olympic gold medallist, Lin Dan also won his opening game today. He defeated Austrian David Obernosterer 21-5, 21-11.
