For the past 28 years Johnson Koh, who has been associated with tennis in Sandakan and Sabah, have been practicing the 1 Malaysia concept even before it was introduced by the current Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Najib Abdul Razak.
The festivals celebrated in Sabah have always been organized along the 1 Malaysia concept.
This year is no different as Johnson Koh who is also the Sabah Tennis President organized an open house at the Sandakan Tennis club attended by various races of tennis players.
Koh has been the unifying factor in Sandakan tennis for many years by having open house at the club and inviting everyone to attend.
The players will play tennis, get together for lion dance performance and partake in the dinner, whilst ang pows are then given out to those who are not married, followed by those veterans who are still active in tennis.
The holding of the open house during Chinese New Year is a way of thanking the tennis players and kids and to bring all the various races together to savior the festive atmosphere with lion dance performance at the very place where tennis is played and where all can come.
