The Purple League returns for a second smashing season this year with a stronger and more formidable line-up of world-class players. An array of top-10 ranked players from around the world, along with recent French Open Superseries champion, Datuk Lee Chong Wei have already signed up with the 12 competing clubs this year.

South Korea’s YooYeong Seong, who forms part of the world No.1 doubles pair, has signed up with Puchong United. Yeong Seong will lead several shuttlers from his country, including single’s Son Wan Ho (No. 13) and Sun Ji Hyun (No.8)

Without a doubt, Puchong United will be a threat to defending champions Muar BC who have the likes of Le Hyun Il, Tommy Sugiarto and doubles ace, Tan Boon Heong. Malaysia’s favourite badminton star, Chong Wei, will be representing the Petaling Jaya BC this year. His sheer presence will make the men’s singles event a strongly category.

Petaling BC’s challenge meanwhile will be mounted by world No.2, Jan O Jorgensen from Denmark along with India’s K. Srikanth. Petaling will also have a strong Japanese link in the form of Kenichi Tago and women’s doubles players Minatsu Mitani and Yui Hashimoto.

Other leading players who have confirmed their participation are Japan’s Kento Momota (No. 4), Indonesia’s HayomRumbaka, Markis Kido, RikyWidianto, Hendra Gunawan, Andrei Adista, Singapore’s Derek Wong, Denmark’s Mads Conrad Petersen, Thailand’s BoonsakPonsana, Hongkong’s Chau Hoi Wah, Taiwan’s Wang Chi Lin and Wang Tzu Wei and Malaysia’s Chong Wei Feng, Mohamad ArifLatiff, HoonThien How and Lim KhimWah.

“I believe the strong start we had last year and the message we sent across the world that the Purple League was serious business has resulted with more world-class players signing up with the 12 competing teams. There were other top players who also wanted to play but were unable to due to other commitments,” said Purple League CEO, Datuk Jack Koh today.

“Looking at the list of players, fans can expect action-packed matched throughout the season. Fans can either catch the action at the Sports Arena Puchong or follow the latest proceedings, live on Astro Arena,” added Datuk Jack.

The opening ceremony for the Purple League will be held on 6 Nov after which a hotly contested battle between Kepong BC and Muar City BC will take place.
