The battle is on for the FA of Malaysia’s (FAM) No 1 post between hot-favorite Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin and former FAM deputy president Tan Sri Annuar Musa.

Hamidin is the incumbent FAM secretary-general while Annuar who is a former FAM deputy president and one time Kelantan FA supremo and is currently the Umno information chief.

Annuar has accepted nomination via a Facebook posting and thanked FAM acting president Datuk Yusoff Mahadi for sending the nomination form to him.

The FAM president’s post fell vacant after incumbent Major General Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, the Crown Prince of Johor, quit the hot-seat in March after a year in office.

As reported earlier the contest would have been a three-cornered contest before Datuk Seri Abdul Azim Zabidi announced his withdrawal. Azim is also the newly elected Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) deputy president.

Despite the one-on-one contest, it is still a hot topic for discussion among the football fraternity.
It must be remembered that Malaysian football needs a man of “football knowledge” who is capable of taking the sport to greater heights.
Hamidin had his ups and downs while Annuar is a politician by nature although he played a big part in Kelantan’s revival some years back.
Hamidin has been handpicked by Tunku Ismail for the top post but it does not mean he will win hands down. As reported the number of nominations does not give the candidates any favors.

Malaysia remains stuck at 171 in the latest FIFA ranking list.

It is best said that the FAM is not the place to seek political mileage if one has that in mind. The current state of affairs of Kelantan football speaks of one’s capabilities. – BY RIZAL ABDULLAH
