Sixth seeds Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying and Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie got off to a winning start in the USD350,00 Daihatsu Indonesia Masters at Istora Senayan in Jakarta but Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing fell in their first round matches on Tuesday.

Peng Soon-Liu Ying defeated Indonesia’s Akbar Bintang Cahyono-Winny Oktavina Kandow 21-19, 21-19 in 35 minutes to advance to the second round against the winners of the Ben Lane-Jessica Pugh (England) versus Lin Chia Yu-Hsu Ya Ching (Chinese Taipei) tie.

The top Malaysian pair won the Thailand Masters in Bangkok two weeks ago and reached the semi-finals in the Perodua Malaysia Masters where they lost to eventual champions Yuta Watanabe-Arisa Higashino.

Soon Huat-Shevon had a rough ride in their opening match in their come-from-behind 18-21, 21-19, 21-12 win over Germany’s Marvin Emil Seidel-Linda Efler in 58 minutes.

They next face a tough hurdle against the husband and wife team of Chris Adcock-Gabrielle Adcock. The fourth seeded English pair beat Japan’s Yuki Kaneko-Misaki Matsutomo 21-12, 21-18.

Meanwhile, in the men’s singles Lee Zii Jia and privateer Chong Wei Feng were promoted to the main draw from the qualifying rounds. Wei Feng will face India’s eight seed K. Srikanth while Zii Jia is up against third seed Chou Tien-chen of Chinese Taipei.

However, Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin continued with his erratic form when the independent player crashed out in the qualifying round. He beat Indonesia’s Syabda Perkasa Belawan 21-15, 21-17 in the first match but lost 17-21, 15-21 to another homester Shesar Hiren Rhustavi in the next. RIZAL ABDULLAH
