Former kingpins Selangor has found the Tun Razak Stadium in Jengka and the artificial turf a happy ground as the Red Giants carved out a 2-0 win over Felda United.

The win gave Selangor top place in the group and a place in the Malaysia Cup quarter-final and revive their mission to win the prestigious silverware for the 34th time.

Selangor struck with goals by Idefayo Olusegun and Khyril Muhymeen in the 16th and 73rd minutes respectively.

The Red Giants topped the group with 10 points from six matches and were joined by Melaka United who survived with a 2-2 draw against Police at the Hang Jebat Stadium and finished second on eight points.

The Fighters, as Felda is known, also saw red when Thiago Junior was sacked in the 87th minute for a second bookable offense. Felda ended their Malaysia Cup campaign in third place with seven points while Police finished at the bottom with six points.

The Police team came unstuck when former national skipper Syafiq Rahim scored from the spot in the 54th minute to tie the score at 2-2. Melaka grabbed a ninth-minute lead through Luka Milunovic but Police hit back fast to make it 1-1 after 12 minutes through a goal by Fakrul Aiman Sidid.

E. Elavarasan’s bunch of fighters looked on course for an upset when Uche Agba fired Police in front with a second goal in the 32nd minute. The lawmen looked good until they conceded a penalty in the second half.

In Group C, as expected Perak joined leaders Pahang in the last eight after a 1-1 draw with Sabah at the Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu. In another match, Pahang rode to a 2-0 win over Penang at the City Stadium.

Perak scored first through Ronaldo Silva in the 25th minute before a header by Maxsius Musa gave the Rhinos the equalizer in the second half.

Pahang got their goals through the French defender Herold Goulon in the 52nd minute before Penang defender A. Sekar looped the ball past his own goalkeeper Zamir Selamat for the second goal for the visitors. RIZAL ABDULLAH
