Three teams from ASEAN – Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia – will march on in the Round of 16 of the men’s football event of the Asian Games which starts tomorrow.

From seven ASEAN teams that participated at the games this year – Thailand, Laos, Myanmar and Timor Leste – fell by the wayside with the Thais just missing out on being one of the four best third-placed teams to join the winners and also runners from the six groups.

After the group matches, the Round of 16 will be played over two days on 23 August and 24 August.

Vietnam will take to the field on 23 August when they play Bahrain in Bekasi.

A day later, hosts Indonesia will take on United Arab Emirates in Cikarang while Malaysia entertain Japan in Bekasi.
