National junior golfer Ashley Lau made it a grand double for Malaysia at the AmBank SportExcel International Junior Golf 2015 when she won the Girlā€™s 15-18 category and also lead Malaysia to the Team Championship title at the Templer Park Country Club in Rawang, Selangor.

Ashley won the Girlā€™s 15-18 category by defeating SEA Games champion Princess Superal from Phillipines in a play-off on the second hole after both players were tied at 216 after the final round. Her score combined with Suzairi Iqmah Rahim ensured Malaysia became the Team Champions with a total score of 437 to defeat the India and Philippines team of Arjun Prasad and Princess Superal.

Ashley also won the overall white-tee title and was the best Malaysian performer to win a one-year scholarship from Hills Golf Academy, Gold Coast, Australia worth approximately RM129,000 or $42,000 Australian Dollar (AUD).

ā€œWinning this tournament had made me realise that I can play better in the future. It has given me more confidence now and I look forward for the ASEAN School Games which begins end of November in Brunei,ā€ said Ashley who hails from Sarawak.

Another Malaysian to win a title was Nor Harith Nor Hadi who won the Boyā€™s 11-12 age group category by six strokes ahead of teammate Jayden Ng. Nor Harithā€™s score was 250 while Jayden carded an overall total of 256.

In other categories, Nopparat Panichpon won the Boyā€™s 15-18 category with a three-day total of 212 while teammate Thanaphon Aphinyawutthikun won the Boyā€™s 13-14 title with a final score of 227.

In the Girlā€™s 13-14 category, Bernice Llas of Philippines clinched the title with a three-day total of 220 while Japanā€™s Kokoro Ouchi was the champion in the Girlā€™s 11-12 category, winning by a massive eight strokes.

The prizes were given away by Tunku Tan Sri Imran Tuanku Jaafar, Chairman, SportExcel and Syed Anuar Syed Ali, Head, Group Corporate Communications and Marketing, AmBank Group.Ā
