Head coach Mohd Asyraaf Abdullah said that the Malaysian Women’s Football team is still a development side and might be a little less experienced against the big girls in the region.

He said that when compared to the more experienced teams like Thailand and Vietnam or Myanmar and Philippines, the Malaysian girls are still a little behind.

Having said that Asyraaf, will still be gunning for at least the bronze medal when the team opens their SEA Games campaign on 15 August 2017.

“After the friendly match with Singapore tomorrow, I believe that we will be at least 95% ready to face Philippines for the SEA Games,” said Asyraaf.

“Malaysia are ranked 18th in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) way below Thailand (6th), Vietnam (7th) and Myanmar (10th). Even the Philippines are ranked higher than Malaysia at 15th.”

“Thailand have played at the FIFA World Cup before while they alongside Vietnam had also played at AFC Women’s Championships.” – BY FAZLIN ZULKIFLI
