Malaysia put up a superb attacking display to whitewashed Singapore 6-0 at the Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung, but was still not good enough to book their place in the final of Division One FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026.
With host Indonesia scoring a thumping 9-2 victory over Bangladesh – with three goals coming in after the 90th minute mark – at the at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, it ensured them their place in the final based on better goal difference.
But really, there was no shame for Harimau Malaya as they put up a tight, controlled pace throughout the exchange against their fierce Causeway Rivals to slot in the half dozen goals to match the biggest victory they last recorded all the way back in 1978.
Newly naturalised player Bérgson Da Silva was on a hat-trick (8th minute penalty, 62nd, 90th+3) to be followed by goals from Stuart Wilkin (26th), Paulo Josué (76th) and Muhamad Syahir Bashah (87th).
Malaysia will now play in the classification third-place match on 5 October 2026.
Meanwhile, a quick double from Mitchell Lee Baker (11th and 20th minute) put Indonesia well on the way in Jakarta.
Rizky Ridho then added a third in the 32nd minute before Shahriar Emon pulled a goal back for Bangladesh four minutes later.
Two further goals from Lee Baker (37th and 42nd minute) and then another from Justin Hubner (45th+1) put the score at 6-1 for Indonesia at half-time.
Luke Vickery (90th), Kevin Diks (90th+6) and Lee Baker (90th+7) scored the rest of the goals as Bangladesh added another through Farhaan Ali Wahid (90th+1) for the final scoreline and a place in the final.
