The National Shooting Range Centre in Subang received the thumbs up from Youth and Sports Minister YB Brig Gen KhairyJamaluddin ahead of the KL2017 SEA Games.

In a planned inspection visit to the National Shooting Range today, Khairy, who is also the chairman of the Malaysian Organising Committee (MASOC) Kuala Lumpur 2017, said he is satisfied with the conditionsat the Games venue after the National Shooting Association of Malaysia (NSAM) has taken positive steps in ensuring the events is held without problems.

“Previously, we have requested for several facilities at the venue to be upgraded and from what I’ve seen during my tour around the range today, it is in great condition. I am satisfied with the progress made,” he said.

“NSAM have successfully renovated the roof and in terms of facilities, it is ready for the Games. It’s 90 per cent completed and the only task on hand are putting up banners, posters and other decorations,” said Khairy.

He added that NSAM has also taken adequate measures and precautions in ensuring the venue is free of Aedes mosquitoes breeding on the ground.

“We have taken strict measures on the surroundings as well. The fogging process will be constant to assure that there will be no cases of dengue,” he said. “We are aware that the venue can pose a potential hotspot for mosquitoes and we’re taking precautionary measures to ensure nothing of such occurs,” addedKhairy.

Fourteen gold medals will be up for grabs in the shooting events which start on August 21-26. – BY ALVIN OH
