Commonwealth Games champion Ooi Tze Liang retained his gold medal in the 28th SEA Games in Singapore with a superb performance in the men’s 3m springboard at the OCBC Aquatic Centre – a happy hunting ground for the Malaysian divers – on Sunday.

It was also a day when Leong Mun Yee-Vivine Traisy Tukiet left their rivals trailing to win the women’s 10, springboard Platform gold.

The 21-year-old Tze Liang struck gold – his second in the Games in Singapore after winning the gold with Chew Yiwei in the men’s synchronised 10m  platform on Saturday – with 473.55 points.  Indonesia’s 32-year-old Akhmal Sukran Jamjami was a distant second with 381.00 for his silver while Singapore’s Timorthy Lee Han Kuan (349.25) took the bronze.

Mun Yee-Traisy Tukiet were hardly threatened in their quest for gold and their 306.66 total was enough to spell their dominance. Singapore took the silver through Lee Myra Jia Wen-Freida Lim Shen-Yan (238.59 points) and Thailand with 222.12 points won the bronze through Jiratchaya Yothonghyos and Surincha Booranapol.

It was also a golden outing for the Malaysian women’s artistic gynmastics at the Bishan Sports Hall when Farah Ann Abdul Hadi, Tracie Ang, Tan Ing Yueh, Lovinia Michelle Jayadev, Siti Nur Bahirah Ahmad and Nur Eli Eliana garnered 206.2 points for the gold efforts.

Malaysia came out tops in vault (53.450), uneven bars (49.400) and floor (53.250). The only discipline Malaysia settled for second best was in the balance beam (50.100) – losing to the Singapore team who topped with 50.650.

Host Singapore with 202.5 points won the silver and the bronze was won by the Philippines with a 191.4 total.

At the National Sailing Centre, Malaysia skippered by Muhammad Fauzi Kaman Shah edged Thailand by a solitary point for the gold medal in the Under-16 team optimist event. The rest of the Malaysia crew was made up of Abdul Latif Mansor, Nor Nabila Natasha Mohd Nazri, Nur Aishah Rose Ramlee and Muhammad Dhiauddin Rozaini.

As at press time Malaysia’s medal tally stands at 7 golds, 14 silver and 14 bronze
