Brazilian striker Luiz Adriano’s goalscoring exploits for Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk in last season’sChampions League earned him a move to Italian giants AC Milan on Thursday, the buying club announced on its website.
The 28-year-old — who along with Lionel Messi, Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo scored nine goals in last season’s Champions League including five in one game against Belarussian outfit BATE Borisov — signed a five-year contract for a reported fee of eight million euros ($8.8million).
“Luiz Adriano signed a contract which will tie him to AC Milan till June 30 2020,” Milan announced on its Twitter account.
Luiz Adriano, capped four times since making his debut for Brazil in November 2014, enjoyed a hugely successful spell with Shakhtar after joining them in 2007, winning the national title six times and the 2009UEFA Cup.
He is the second high-profile signing by Milan since the end of the season, which saw them fail to qualify for either of the continental club competitions.
