Singapore’s Sasha Siew Hoon Christian is all pumped up for KL2017 which will surfs up in a few weeks.

The Singapore lass swept two gold medals at the Malaysian Waterski and Wakeboard Internationals in Putrajaya to defend her status as the 2015 SEA Games champion.

The two-time Wakeboard SEA games gold medallist (2011 and 2015) remained dominant as she came up tops to shine gold in the pre SEA Games Wakeboard final with a score of 64.78 in Putrajaya.

Meanwhile in the Slalom event, Sasha scored 1.50/55/12.00 to stay ahead of 2015 silver medallist Ummu Thoyibhatus Sholikah of Indonesia and Aaliyah Yoong Hanifah of Malaysia.

“I treat every competition as important as any other and I gave my all. I’m very happy with the results but I have to remind myself that I need to train as hard and not slack off.

“It’s only the pre Games. So I’m still keeping everything in tact to perform well for the actual Games as anything can happen.

“I just need to keep being disciplined with my preparations and not be overly confident and also not being overly nervous as it’s kinda like a sweet spot for me,” said Sasha.

Sasha, who was absent from the Asian Waterski and Wakeboard Championships last year in South Korea due to an injury, was pleased with her performance after a full recovery.

“I don’t have much achievements for the last two years. I was out with an injury and so I didn’t compete at all. I’ve missed out on the Asian Championships as I had an impact fracture on my right tibia from wakeboarding.

“Now I’m back and I’ve completed my rehab. I think taking some time off from the water has got me more excited to get back on.

“Training for most parts have been positive. There’s still things to fix for both of my events but I’m pretty happy with the progress and I hope it keeps getting better as we approach the Games,” added Sasha.

In preparations for the KL2017 Games water sport events scheduled on 26-29 August, the Singaporean also thanked the Malaysian Waterski and Wakeboard Federation (MWWF) for the opportunity to get accustomed to the Games venue.

“I’m happy to be back competing. It’s great to be here and have Malaysia host us as it’s nice that we’ve got the opportunity to check out the course.

“In every event we’re going to give it our all. Our target is our own personal performance. We just want to focus on our personal best and let the results follow,” said Sasha, who refused to be distracted by medal expectations. – BY ALVIN OH
