SOFIAN KEPLI retained his lead in the second round of the second Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) Satellite Tour event at Damai Laut Golf & Country Club in Lumut, Perak today.

Played in tough conditions and on a course where the PGM Tour’s Swiss Garden Closed Championships were held last week, with a winning score of just three-under, the Satellite field struggled dismally and this was reflected in the numbers returned.

Sofian had rounds of 77 and 79 for a 12-over 156 total to remain in front. And even then, that proved enough for a 10-stroke advantage as amateur players Azmer Merzam (79) and H. Sanusi (82) joint second.

In a field dominated by amateurs, Abdul Azim M. Junaidi (85) was fourth on 169, with Badiuzzaman Mohamad Nor fifth on 187 and Mohd Shafiz Abd Rahim sixth another stroke back.

Commenting on the course after his round, Sofian said it was “very tough and played very heavy”.

“It’s a good layout, but a tough one,” said the pro from Eastwood Valley Golf & Country Club in Miri, Sarawak. “I just tried to keep my mistakes down to a minimum as it could not have been any easier for the other players. And I’m looking forward to the third and final round tomorrow.”

The second event on the PGM Satellite Tour comes to an end tomorrow with the third and final round.
