At least 2,000 runners are expected to participate in the 3rd Great Eastern Johor Bahru 10K run being held this 13th December here.
Sponsored by Great Eastern Life Assurance (Malaysia) Berhad (Great Eastern Life), and supported by Majlis Bandaraya Johor Bahru (MBJB) and Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA), the 3rd edition of the run is anticipated to pull an even larger crowd than before.
Coming into the second year, the organisers of the Great Eastern JB10K event believe that the run is fast becoming a regionally recognised event.
Race organiser, CG Lim said that last year, the run attracted over 1,000 runners from Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia. This year, the run will expect more than 2,000 local and international participants taking part in the event, a significant 100% increase from the previous year.
“We are very appeased as these figures show that public at large are taking the right measures to a healthier lifestyle. Every year, we organise the Live Great Run in Kuala Lumpur and we always remind and encourage everyone to have fun while keeping fit.
This way, your effort stretches beyond just a healthy body but also a holistic soul; especially when time is spent with loved ones,” said Dato Koh Yaw Hui, Director and CEO of Great Eastern Life.
As the main sponsor, Great Eastern Life wants to inspire Malaysians to start making little changes in life through health and wellness engagement activities that have been carefully put together through the Live Great Programme. This initiative is in line with the Live Great Programme which was introduced by Great Eastern Life Assurance (Malaysia) Berhad in April 2012 as the first integrated health and wellness programme by an insurance company in the region; designed to assist customers in achieving their health goals and to live healthier, better and longer.
Besides encouraging a healthy lifestyle, the objective of the run is to promote sports tourism as runners run through the amazing scenic landscape of Jalan Skudai and Danga Bay. The race will start and end at the Dataran Bandaraya, Johor Bahru. Registration is now open and will end on 30th November 2014. The race categories are Men’s Open (18 years and above), Men’s Veteran (40 years and above), Men’s International (18 years and above), Women’s Open (18 years and above), Women’s Veteran (35 years and above) and Women’s International (18 years and above).
The event receives the endorsement and support of IRDA as it is in line with the Authority’s “Smart Healthy Cities and Communities” initiative in Iskandar Malaysia which is about improving the physical and social environment, expanding community resources so that members of the community can perform one daily’s functions productively and develop their maximum potential.
