VENUE Sukan Ais di Empire City, Damansara, Selangor bagi Sukan SEA Ogos ini, dijangka sedia digunakan untuk acara ujian pada Mei ini.

Mengesahkan demikian selepas lawatan pada Khamis (9 Feb 2017) Ketua Setiausaha Kementerian Belia dan Sukan (KBS) Datuk Lokman Hakim Ali berkata, gelanggang berkenaan dijangka siap sepenuhnya pada April, tiga bulan sebelum bermula temasya Sukan SEA dari 19 hingga 31 Ogos ini.

“Venue di Empire City dijangka siap sepenuhnya April ini dan boleh digunakan untuk acara ujian pada Mei,” kata Datuk Lokman Hakim.

Lawatan ke venue Empire City Ring Ice itu turut disertai Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif Jawatankuasa Pengelola Malaysia (MASOC) Kuala Lumpur 2017, Dato’ Seri Zolkples Embong dan Ketua Pengarah Majlis Sukan Negara (MSN) Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail.

Pengarah Blur Frost Ice Rink Specialist, Allan Yeoh dan Ketua Pegawai Operasi Empire City, Ricky Ho hadir menyampaikan taklimat mengenai persediaan venue yang akan menjadi hos kepada tiga acara sukan musim sejuk iaitu Hoki Ais, Figure Skating dan Short Track Speed Skating.

Menurut Allan, venue berkenaan bakal dilengkapi gelanggang ais yang menepati spesifikasi di Sukan Olimpik dengan keluasan lebih 19,000 kaki persegi. Manakala keluasan penuh adalah 42,000 kaki persegi dengan kapasiti hampir 500 penonton pada satu-satu masa.

“Kos keseluruhan projek bernilai RM20 juta dan kesemua peralatan utama sudah dibeli, hanya menanti masa untuk acara ujian pada April atau awal Mei ini,” kata Allan.

Hoki Ais yang menawarkan satu emas dijadual dari 20-24 Ogos manakala Figure Skating (2 emas) dari 27-28 Ogos diikuti Short Track Speed Skating (6 emas) dari 30-31 Ogos ini.

29th SEA GAMES 2017: EMPIRE CITY READY FOR TEST EVENTS IN MAY

EMPIRE City Ring Ice, the venue for Ice Hockey and Skating events which offers a total of 9 gold medals, will be ready for test events in May.

Ministry of Youth and Sports Secretary-General Datuk Lokman Hakim Ali today confirmed that the construction of the venue located at Damansara will be fully completed in April, three months before the start of the 2017 SEA Games in August.

The 29th SEA Games Kuala Lumpur 2017 is scheduled from Aug 19 to 31. 

“Construction work at the venue will be fully completed in April while the pre-Games test events is expected sometime in May,” said Datuk Lokman Hakim after a tour at the venue today (9 Feb 2017).

Also present were Dato’ Seri Zolkples Embong, the Malaysia Organising Committee (MASOC) Kuala Lumpur 2017 Chief Executive Officer and National Sports Council (NSC) Director-General Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail.

Blur Frost Ice Rink Specialist Director, Allan Yeoh dan Empire City Chief Operating Officer, Ricky Ho briefed the entourage on preparation work at the venue, which for the first time will host three winter sports events – Ice Hockey, Figure Skating and Short Track Speed Skating.

Allan said the Olympic-sized ice skating rink, which complied with international requirement, will have a seating capacity of 500 people at one time.

“The RM20 million venue will be ready for test events in May and will be fully equipped with the latest equipment,” said Allan.

Ice hockey, scheduled from August 20-24 offers one gold medal while Figure Skating (2 gold) and Short Track Speed Skating (6 gold) will be held from August 27-28 and August 30-31 respectively.
