Former champion, Wazi Abdul Hamid has confirmed he will field a CP115 team in the 2014 PETRONAS AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship season finale in Alor Setar, Kedah this weekend.

Wazi will be joining a long list of rider turned team owner in the paddock with Rosnizam Mohd Noor (Yamaha Motobert Racing), Soong Chee Kieong (Harian Metro Y-TEQ SCK Honda Racing), Yong Yin Hoe (PETRONAS Yamaha Maju Motor), Shahrol Yuzy Ahmad Zaini (Givi Honda Yuzy Racing) and recently Ahmad Fuad Baharudin (Felda Pbafb Tech Racing) being some of them.

The 1996 Expert Champion said the move was a start to a bigger project to establish a full time team by next season with the objective of nurturing new talents, developing skill and race craft in readiness for the track. Labelled Wazi Motor Racing, the team will run on Honda machinery with Pro-Am rider, Azlan Shah Saidun Hardi as their rider.

“We are really excited with this new project and I am sure we can add some spice to the current competition,” said Wazi.

“The motorcycle racing industry in Malaysia is booming and we want to become the new player and produce quality riders capable of competing on both the national and international level. That is the idea behind the formation of Wazi Motor Racing,” he added.

Speaking about his expectations for the final race of the season and his plans for next year, Wazi commented, “At the moment we are still negotiating with potential sponsors and we will announce the details once it is firmed in February or March next year.”

He added, “As for this weekend’s race in Alor Setar, we have no particular target. We aim to use this new venue as a hot bed to gauge our strength and weaknesses as a team – from the technical standpoint, management and rider development. Furthermore I believe the race at Alor Setar can help us understand our competitors better before we take them on next year.
