swiwmming.world.championships.2015National divers Ng Yan Yee/Nur Dhabitah Sabri failed to make a splashing debut at the World Aquatics Championships in Kazan, Russia after finishing eighth in the women’s 3m synchronised springboard at the Aquatic Palace on Saturday.

The pair who managed to make it to the final round after finishing among the top 12, could only manage 294.66 points in the final.

The event was won by three-time Olympic champions Wu Minxia/Shi Tingmao from China after collecting 351.30 points to beat Jennifer Abel/Pamela Ware from Canada who managed 319.47 points.

The bronze medal went to Australian pair Samantha Mills/Esther Qin with 304.20 points.

In the 10m platform synchronised mixed which was introduced for the first time and saw 15 pairs participating, Malaysian pair Chew Yiwei/Loh Zhiayi managed to finish in 10th spot after collecting 289.89 points.

The event was won by Si Yajie/Tai Xiaohu from China with 350.88 points followed by Meaghan Benfeito/Vincent Riendeau from Canada (309.66) while Domonic Bedggood/Melissa Wu from Australia ended in third place with 308.22 points.

Malaysia’s hopes will hinge on Singapore SEA Games gold medallist Ooi Tze Liang/Chew Yiwei who compete in the men’s 10m Platform synchronised. – BERNAMA
