It was smooth ride into the third round Penang’s Samuel Le – the top seed in the Boys’ singles Under-16 – in the Zone A (1st Leg) in the 100PLUS National Junior Circuit in Kuantan without lifting his racquet.

Samuel was given a walkover by Faris Nazhan Mohd Fazli of Perlis in the second round for a free passage into the third round after receiving a bye in the first round.

Standing in the way for a place in the quarter-finals on Friday is Sabah’s Eric Austin Jimmy who came through a 21-19, 13-21, 21-11 win over Pahang’s Murugan Thanesh Kumar in the second round.

There was more disappointment for the home fans when second seed Chan Li Herng of Pahang was shown the exit in the second round. Li Herng was blown away 16-21, 14-21 by Penang’s Wah Jia Wei in the second round.

In the Girls Under-16 singles it was also smooth sailing into the second round for top seed Samin Arena Satu of Sabah.

Samin, who received a bye in the first round will face Penang’s Ho Lo Ee who beat Perak’s Nicole Hen Yee Toong 21-13, 21-15 in the first round match on Wednesday.

Second seed Tan Zhing Yi of Penang will take on Perak’s Vibiana Vincent Ravindran of Perak in Thursday’s second round. Vibiana beat Nurul Annisa Azmi of Perlis 21-13, 21-15 in the first round while Zhing Yi drew a bye in the first round. – BY RIZAL ABDULLAH
