It has been a mixed start to the new season for both Al Gharafa and Umm Salal in the Qatar Stars League, with neither managing to put together any sort of winning streak.

But the few that made the trip to the Thani Bin Jassim Stadium in Doha saw Umm Salal fight back in style to beat Al Gharafa 3-2 on Saturday.

Mahmoud Al Mawas curled the ball from outside the box to beat Al Gharafa’s goalkeeper Yousef Hassan with a pacy shot in the 28th minute giving Umm Salal a 1-0 lead.

Al Gharafa’s equaliser came eight minutes later after former Dutch international Wesley Sneijder weaved his way into the Umm Salal box allowing Amro Surag to level at 1-1.

Four minutes later, Sneijder, a constant threat throughout, converted a penalty to give Al Gharafa a 2-1 lead.

A minute before half, Umm Salal captain Yannick Sagbo scored his fourth of the season to level at 2-2.

Three minutes into the second half, Umm Salal made it 3-2 after a fierce strike from Ismail Mahmoud to give the away side their second victory of the season.

Al-Gharafa’s second defeat of the season keeps them in fifth in the league with seven points.

Umm Salal move up to seventh with seven points. SNTV
