Nur Hidayat Jauhari could not have chosen a better time to score his first ever hole in one in his young career than on the first day of the 100PLUS Malaysian Junior Open at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Golf and Country Club.
The 17-year-old from Kuala Terengganu achieved one of golf’s great moment at hole six on the sixth flight of the day. And for his effort, Nur Hidayat will be rewarded with a brand new Samsung S6, courtesy of sponsors 100PLUS.
“I have not scored a hole in one before this year, so it feels great to do so at a course which I have very little experience,” said Nur Hidayat, who is placed ninth overall at the end of the first round of competition.
“The course was soggy and a bit tricky. Some green were fast while others were slow. But in the afternoon all got slow.
“I played at the KL Amateur Open last week where I did not play well at all. So I hope that I can do better this week, in what will be my last year in the Junior Open.”
In the meantime, Amir Nazrin Jailani shares the lead alongside Sazanur Iman Salenin in the boy’s division when both carded one-under par 71 at the end of a gloomy rain-threat afternoon.
A stroke behind was Selangor’s Mohd Fiardaus Kassim with a par 72.
In the girl’s division, Kim Joo Yeon underlined her determination to win the title this year with a two-under 70.
On second was local lass Nur Eliana Ariffin with a par 72 while compatriot Winnie Ng and Rivani Adelia Sihotang from Indonesia were a further two strokes behind.
