Vietnam head coach Park Hang-seo is aiming for the top spot in Group A of the AFF Suzuki Cup when the biggest football extravaganza opens in this part of the world next month.

The AFF Suzuki Cup is the most anticipated event in the region and with the progress that has been made of teams from the ASEAN level at various AFC Championships; there are expectations that the 12th edition of the meet will be even more explosive.

And Vietnam who last won the regional crown way back in 2008, will be eager to add to that accolade.

“We still aim at the top spot (in Group A),” said Hang-seo.

“I have selected the 30 best players for this tournament. For some reasons, some of them could not join their teammates in time. As result, I don’t have much time (about one month) to prepare well for the AFF Suzuki Cup.”

In Group A, Vietnam will have Malaysia, Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos for company. They will open their campaign against Laos on 8 November in Vientiane.

Other concern which Hang-seo has is his almost zero knowledge of the opposing teams in the group.

“I have almost no idea about them. I just flew to Malaysia to watch their local league and knew that they have naturalised players in their national team. On the other teams, the VFF gave me clips of their previous matches,” he said.
