Sweden’s Johan Kristoffersson sealed his second successive World Rallycross Championship title after winning the World RX of the United States in Texas on Sunday.

Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas hosted the tenth round of the 2018 World Rallycross Championship – the World RX of the United States – on Sunday.

Johan Kristoffersson claimed his ninth victory of the season and wrapped up a second successive world title in the process.

The Swede took advantage of a mistake from leader Petter Solberg on the last lap of the final to edge into the first place.

“I mean the team gave me a great car and I felt really strong on free practice already, on the first eight laps. So, and then I got a little bit stuck in traffic in Q1 (qualifying one), so it didn’t look so good to secure the championship already here this weekend. But Q2 was strong. They gave me a really good car also for Q3. I felt very strong in Q3, Q4 I won and then (in the) semi-final I had some really good tyre strategy, so I was really strong in the semi-final and, made the pass on Mattias (Ekstrom) in (the) final, which was crucial to, be on the podium, and then Petter (Solberg) had a small, small mistake and that was enough.”

Kristoffersson went on to take the chequered flag, with Norway’s Solberg and his compatriot Andreas Bakkerud finishing in second and third place respectively.

Former champion Mattias Ekstrom, the only driver capable of catching Kristoffersson in the championship standings at the start of the day, finished the final in fifth place. SNTV
