The Lao Football Federation (LFF) held a meeting this week to discuss the further development of women’s football as they aspire to achieve better results through more competitions and support.

The meeting was attended by LFF President, Viphet Sihachakr; Director General of the Elite Sports Department of the Ministry of Education and Sports, Sengphone Phonamath; representatives from FIFA and other organisations from Vientiane and provinces.

“We hope to bolster women’s football by organising the LFF Women’s League (21 October -20 December 2023).

“The LFF are also supporting junior football by organising competitions in every province. The work with regard to women’s football is supported by the Ministry of Education and Sports, the Vientiane Football Federation, football clubs and sponsors.”

LFF General Secretary Ms Kanya Keomany has been named a member of FIFA and AFC while Ms Phoutsavanh Chanthavong has been named a referee at the AFC Elite level.

LFF recognised the importance of including women in their development plans.

Eight women’s teams from Vientiane and the provinces are currently competing in the Lao Women’s League 2023, with matches being played at the LFF’s Sports Fields.
