Malaysia’s bowling campaign at the Deaflympics Tokyo 2025 came to a close without additional medal feat after both national mixed teams failed to progress beyond the opening round of the team event at the Higashiyamato Grand Bowl, Higashiyamato City, Tokyo.
Ho Choon Seong, Syabil Syamsul Azam, Hong Siong Mui and Hie Siw Sing fought hard to stay in contention but their combined total of 1,109 pinfalls in the first round could only place them in 9th spot, falling short of qualification for the next stage.
Malaysia’s second mixed team — Awang Mohd Zaidi, Mohamad Mohd Firdaus, Nor Misha Nathera Mackery and Huwainaa Danduan Abdullah — concluded their outing three rungs below in 12th out of 24 participating teams with a total of 1,036 pinfalls after six Baker-format games.
Despite the disappointment, the squad maintained their spirit.
Ho Choon Seong said the team had given everything they had: “There were highs and lows throughout the campaign, but we take the positives. We’ll learn from this and continue training hard in preparation for the next championships.”
Malaysia ends its overall Deaflympics 2025 campaign with 1 gold, 2 silvers and 1 bronze, falling short of the pre-Games target of three gold medals following missed opportunities in badminton and the men’s team event in bowling.
Malaysia’s gold came through the men’s doubles bowling, while the two silver medals were won in women’s doubles bowling and the men’s 84kg karate kumite. The campaign was rounded off with a bronze courtesy of the mixed badminton.
The Deaflympics Tokyo 2025 will come to a close with the official closing ceremony tomorrow.
