# Amri Yahyah scores the winner in 1-0 win over Timor Leste
# Kim Swee turns thing around for Malaysia

Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) Logo - 230x250Malaysia finally nailed their first win in the Asian Zone Group A World Cup qualifiers with a hard fought 1-0 win over Timor Leste in Dili on Tuesday – a perfect Maal Hijrah present from Datuk Ong Kim Swee and his team for the people of Malaysia.

Maal Hijrah, the Muslim New Year, falls on Wednesday (Oct 14).

Amri Yahyah scored the winner in the 10th minute. The Johor Darul Takzim (JDT) player was at the right place at the right to find the net with his first touch after Nazirul had cut back after he was set up by Azamuddin Akil on the left.

The Timor Leste defence was left rooted when Amri sent a neat left footer that turned out to be the winner at the Dili Municipal Stadium in the late afternoon match.

Victory was sweet for the Malaysians who were held to a 1-1 draw by Timor Leste in the first round in Shah Alam in June.

It was not easy going for the Malaysians but they played with confidence and commitment with first choice goalkeeper Khairul Fahmi Che Mat having a good game in the match.

In fact the Kelantan keeper played a major role in Malaysia’s win and made two outstanding saves in the 70th minute. First he denied Rodrigo Sousa and two minute later he made the save of the match from Adelino Oliveira.

After Amri’s goal Malaysia saw Safee Sali and S. Kunanlan in the 12th, 32nd and 33rd minutes muffing scoring opportunities.

The win over Timor Leste came in the wake of a 3-1 win over Laos in a friendly match in Bangkok.

There is no denying that the win over Laos was a confidence booster for the national team. It was Malaysia’s first win this year.
