While most of the top seeds have advanced, Olympic silver medallists, Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying, were shown the exit in the second round of the Asian Games individual competition at the Istora Senayan this afternoon.

The Malaysian mixed doubles aces were knocked out by Hong Kong’s Lee Chun Hei Reginald-Chau Hoi Wah 21-17, 19-21, 28-26. In the deciding game especially, Peng Soon-Liu Ying had several chances to settle the score but unforced errors led to their premature departure from the competition.

Top seeded mixed doubles duo of Zheng Siwei-Huang Yaqiong advanced with a 21-19, 21-16 victory over Chinese Taipei’s Lee Yang-Hsu Ya Ching. They either face Japanese pair, Takuro Hoki-Koharu Yonemoto or Vietnam’s Do Tuan Duc-Pham Nhu Thao, who are playing later, in the third-round tomorrow.

China’s other leading mixed doubles pair, Wang Wilyu-Huang Dongping, the second seeded here, found the going easy as they disposed of Macau’s Pui Ngai Che-Xue Xin Gong 21-7, 21-8. They will take on Japan’s Yuta Watanabe-Arisa Higashino in the third round.

In the men’s singles, fourth seeded Chou Tien Chen from Chinese Taipei made his way past Vietnam’s Pham Cao Cuong (Vie) 21-16, 21-12 and will likely H.S. Prannoy from India who will be meeting Thailand’s Kantaphon Wangcharoen later this evening.

Local ace Anthony Sinisuka Ginting appears to have recovered well from his massive battle against Chen Long in the team final two days ago. He easily made it past Iran’s Mehran Shahbazi 21-9, 21-8 in just under 30 minutes in the second round today.

Anthony is likely to face second seed Kento Momota in the third-round tomorrow. Momota has been drawn to meet Bikash Shrestha from Nepal this evening.

In the women’s singles, Akane Yamaguchi, ranked second in this tournament, was simply too good for Afghanistan’s Saraj Lidaa who went down 21-0, 21-3. Akane will next meet Nepal’s Nangsal Tamang, who defeated Fathimath Nabaaha from Maldives today.
