National hockey coach Stephen van Huizen has urged his men to step up to the plate and qualify for the playoffs in the World Hockey League Semi-final in London which starts in two weeks.

At the press conference that was held at the Tun Razak Hockey Stadium today, van Huizen announced the list of players that he will be bringing for the task ahead.

Malaysia have been drawn into a five- team Pool A consisting of world no. 1 Argentina, hosts England, South Korea and China.
“No games will be easy as places for the World Cup are at stake. If we finish fifth then there’s no chance to qualify for the World Cup,” said van Huizen.
“We have to be ready from the first game. All we need to do is to qualify for the fourth spot to enter into the World League Semi-final playoffs.”
The team, who will be departing for London on 7 June, will open their campaign against Argentina (16 June), England (17 June), South Korea (19 June) and China (20 June).
“We plan to leave one week before the tournament to get acclimatized,” he added.
Prior to the tournament proper, Malaysia have arranged to play three friendly matches against Great Britain (9 June), Wales (11 June) and Canada (13 June). – BY ALVIN OH
