Malaysia Cup champions Perak have added a tough pillar in the form of former Australian Under-20 and Under-23 international Zac Anderson to beef up their back line for the new season.

The former Kedah and PKNS FC defender was revealed to the media in Ipoh on Boxing Day on Wednesday on a day when team manager Datuk Adly Shah Ahmad Tah cleared the air on national goalkeeper Hafizul Hakim Khairul Nizam Jothy who was rumoured to be leaving the Bos Gaurus.

The widely experienced tough tackling Anderson will “toughen things up” at the back said Adly Shah in a statement.

“Apart from his physical advantage (6’3″) Anderson’s experience of playing in the Malaysian league is a plus factor apart from from his leadership qualities,” said Adly Shah.

“There is an urgent need to beef up our defense and this was discussed at length before we got the green light.”

Adly Shah, together with coach Mehmet Durakovic discussed the matter with Perak FA (PAFA) president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, who is also the Mentri Besar of Perak.

Anderson played for Kedah in 2017 before joining Selangor club PKNS FC this year. He also played for Gold Coast United, Central Coast Mariners and Sydney FC before moving to the United Arab Emirate where he played for Emirates Club.

Perak beat Terengganu FC in this year’s Malaysia Cup final on on penalties and
finished runners-up to Johor Darul Takzim in the Malaysian Super League.

“There have been rumours that Hafizul Hakim will be leaving Perak in the new season but this is not true,” said Adly Shah.  RIZAL ABDULLAH
