Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games

Reigning junior world champion Wu Shengping of China was too strong for her but Malaysia’s up and coming junior diver Loh Zhiayi did not disappoint in the pool in the 2nd Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing by clinching in the 10m platform on Saturday.

Zhiayi garnered 275.70 points in her four dives with the gold going to home favourite Shengping who showed her class with 324.40 points. The bronze went to Mexico’s Alejandra Orozco (258.40).

The Olympic Council did not set any medal targets for the Malaysian contingent to Nanjing but Malaysia have so far won a gold and a silver. The gold was won by Malaysia’s top junior shuttler Cheam June Wei who won the mixed with Hong Kong’s Ng Tsz Yau.

June Wei’s gold, however, will not count towards Malaysi’a medal tally because the mixed doubles event is made up of players from different nations and compete under the National Olympic Committees.

Wong Pei Tty, Malaysia’s Chef-de-Mission in Nanjing said the silver medal is for the people of Malaysia.and hopefully it will spur the others to win more medals.
