Indian star Jeev Milkha Singh will head to the BANK BRI-JCB Indonesia Open next week with the intention of ending a four-year title drought.
Singh, a two-time Asian Tour number one who has won 14 titles around the world, leads a stellar cast which includes young Thai star Pavit Tangkamolprasert, Carlos Pigem of Spain and Steve Lewton of England to the US$300,000 Asian Tour event.
The BANK BRI-JCB Indonesia Open is poised to be an exciting event with a total of 21 Asian Tour winners including Chiragh Kumar of India and Thai rising stars Natipong Srithong and Danthai Boonma heading to the Pondok Indah Golf Course.
With the 2016 season coming to close, players such as Mithun Perera of Sri Lanka, Hung Chien-yao of Chinese Taipei, Panuphol Pittayarat of Thailand and Scott Barr of Australia are among those searching for a first Asian Tour victory.Â
The local front will be led by George Gandranata, Danny Masrin, Ian Andrew and Benita Y. Kasiadi, whose father remains as the only Indonesian player to win the National Open in 1989.
The 44-year-old Singh is one of Asiaâs most decorated and global players who won the coveted Asian Tour Order of Merit crown in 2006 and 2008. The Indian has been struggling with injuries but he is determined to rediscover his best form.
âIâm not really injury-free yet but Iâm working not only on my fitness but also my game. I can feel the results are around the corner and I just need to stay patient and keep working on the right stuff,â said Singh.
It has been a mixed season for Singh in 2016 after notching two top-10s but he hopes to end the year on a high note at the BANK BRI-JCB Indonesia Open.
âOne week is all it takes to turn around that corner,â said the optimistic Singh, who is the son to Olympic runner Milkha Singh.
The BANK BRI-JCB Indonesia Open is one of the finest golf championships in Asia where top stars such as Thaworn Wiratchant, Thongchai Jaidee and Padraig Harrington have won the tournament in the past.
