Malaysia’s interest in the mixed doubles in the USD750,000 Yonex French Open in Paris ended with the defeat of eighth seeds Goh Soon Huat-Goh Liu Ying in the second round on Thursday.

The 12th ranked Malaysians fell in three games to England’s 14th ranked Marcus Ellis-Lauren Smith 19-21,24-22, 19-21 in a marathon 81 minutes.

Malaysia’s top-ranked mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying was earlier beaten in the first round – losing 21-19, 18-21, 18-21 to Dutch pair Robin Tabeling-Cheryl Seinen.

The Peng Soon-Liu Ying pair was expected to go far in the French Open after reaching the quarter-finals in the Denmark Open in Odense last week.

In the men’s doubles Malaysia number two pair Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi also failed to clear the first hurdle after going down 21-16, 17-21, 16-21 to Liao Min-chun-Su Ching-heng of Chinese Taipei.

Another men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik was playing China’s Han Chengkai-Zhou Haodong in a late night second-round match. In the first round, the Malaysians defeated Phillip Chew-Ryan Chew of the United States 27-25, 21-11.  RIZAL ABDULLAH
