tour-de-france-movistar-logoStar turns from Nairo Quintana and Alejandro Valverde saw the Spanish cycling outfit Movistar end the WorldTour season as the top ranked team for 2014.

The 2014 season was a personal triumph for Movistar’s 34-year-old team leader Valverde, who topped the UCI Pro Tour rankings for a third time after previous success in 2006 and 2008.

The team’s 24-year-old Colombian climber Quintana, set the tone for a great year when he won the Giro D’Italia in May.

In the country standings Spain were clear winners over Italy, whose Vicenzo Nibali of Astana won the the Tour de France.
