Thailand picked up their first win at the FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup 2025, smashing Canada 6-3 in their second Group B game at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.
After losing to Group B leaders Spain in their opening game three days ago, Thailand regrouped to take a 2-0 lead within four minutes, off a brace from Darika Peanpailun (second and fourth minutes).
Joelle Gosselin narrowed the gap for Canada in the ninth minute before an own goal from Thailand’s Sasikarn Tongdee in the 13th minute put both teams back on level.
But Thailand would finish the first half with their noses 3-2 in front through Sangrawee Meekham’s 20th minute effort.
And even though Maude Lagace put Canada back into contention with the equaliser in the 23rd minute, Thailand turned on the power soon after for the win.
Darika completed her hat-trick in the 25th minute as Arriya Saetoen then pushed Thailand further in front in the 30th minute and Jenjira Bubpha finished things off two minutes later.
In the other match, leaders Spain confirmed their slot to the next round with a 5-1 win over Colombia.
