Chong Wei Feng and Zulfadli Zulkifly stayed on course in the men’s singles in the USD50,000 Russian Open Grand Prix in Vladivostok as the duo booked their place in the quarter-finals on Thursday.
The fifth seeded Wei Feng defeated will face India’s third seed Ajay Jayaram in the last eight while fourth seed Zulfadli Zulkifli will be up against Israel’s  eighth seed Misha Zilberman.
Wei Feng defeated Jan Frolich of the Cezch Republic 21-7, 21-13 in the second round and in the third round scored a 21-17, 21-16 over Japan’s Kento Horiuchi to advance.
Zulfadli who had a free ride into the third round came back from a set down to win against Sweden’s Henri Hurskain 22-24, 21-19, 21-14 after battling for 80 minutes.
Chong Wei, who was beaten in the first round in the Canada Open and the Taiwan Open, goes into the match against against Ajay with a 2-0 advantage in head to head count, having beaten the India in the Yonex Japan Open in 2012 (21-16, 21-16) and the 2010 Proton Malaysia Open (22-20, 21-14. 
Malaysia’s No 1 doubles pair of Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong demolished the Kazakhstan pair of Khaitmurat Kulmatov-Artur Niyazov 21-14, 21-7 in 19 minutes to earn a quarter-final match against top seeds and defending champions Vladimir Ivanov-Ivan Sozonov of Russia.
Privateers Hoon Thien How-Lim Khim Wah defeated Malaysia’s No 2 pair Mak Hoo Chun-Teo Kok Siang 23-25, 21-15, 21-15 and will face another Russian pair Nikita Khakimov-VasilyKuznetsov for a place in Saturday’s semi-finals.
Another independent pair Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong are also in the quarter-finals after a tough match against 
Japan’s Kazuaki Oshima-Yuki Umino before prevailing 16-21, 21-10, 21-15 in a 44 minute match.
In the mixed doubles Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying stayed alive after a three-set battle before coming off 21-11, 17-21, 21-12 win in 41 minutes against Russians Anatoliy Yartsev-Evgeniya Kosetskaya.
