Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail is the new patron of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) with immediate effect.

Wan Azizah replaces former patron Datin Seri RosmahĀ Mansor.

BAM president Datuk Seri Norza Zakaria made the announcement after chairing a special BAM Council meeting in Bukit Kiara on Thursday.

While thanking Rosmah for contributions and sacrifices during her tenure, Norza welcomed Wan Azizah on board and hope badminton will thrive and shine under the deputy prime minister.

“Wan Azizah herself is a keen badminton player and we hope her perseverance and presence would be a boost to the game as Malaysia target medals in the 2020Ā Tokyo Olympics,” said Norza.

Of late Malaysian badminton has taken a nose dive and time returned from the recent Asian Games in Indonesia without a medal to show.

“Wan Azizah has agreed to be the BAM patron and we thank her for that. We are looking at better things for the game in the country,” added Norza. – OLEH RIZAL ABDULLAH
